What is Cardio Exercise?

Cardio exercise is any exercise that raises your heart rate. Why would we want to do that? Because like all muscles, the way to make them stronger and stronger is to move. By building a stronger cardio-vascular system, more capillaries are delivering more oxygen to cells in your muscles. This enables your cells to burn more fat during both exercise and inactivity.


Cardio exercise is any exercise that uses large muscle movement over a sustained period of time (min. of 15-20 minutes), keeping your heart rate to at least 50% of its maximum level. Is your workout intense enough? Wearing a heart monitor will tell! Use this calculator to see what your heart rate is at 50% of its max.

Lastly, you know what I say all the time... mix it up! Be sure to incorporate other types of fitness classes (strengthening, mind/body, stretching) into your routine for better health and results!
